10 Great Reasons to Give to United Way

Since 1964, United Way of Beaufort County Inc. has been the best way for
caring citizens to invest in the community. One in three people in Beaufort
County has benefited from the more than 30 critical health and human care agencies
funded by United Way of Beaufort County Inc.

United Way funds essential programs that help children, youth,
the elderly, families, those in crisis and the sick and disabled.
Priority areas are literacy, hunger and shelter.

United Way is not a lot of hype or glitz; it's a volunteer system that
works continuously and quietly, 365 days a year, to give people a chance to
realize their full potential and make our community a better place to live.

United Way of Beaufort County Inc. is a local not-for-profit, 501(c)3
corporation governed by a local volunteer board of directors that manages
the business and affairs of the corporation and exercises all the
authorities provided by the bylaws.

United Way of Beaufort County Inc. implements checks and balances that
have provided a long legacy of financial integrity. Volunteer committees
that report to the board of directors are responsible for maintaining
adequate controls. Purchases and payments are made using established
procedures. United Way's financial records are audited each year by an
independent auditing firm and each agency funded by United Way is also
required to have a financial audit each year.

United Way is so efficient that 88 cents of every dollar goes directly to
critical human services.

United Way's fund-raising and administrative costs are only
12 percent,
representing the lowest costs of any non-profit organization and far better
than the 40 percent accepted by the National Charity Information Bureau, a
national charities watchdog agency.

United Way develops innovative strategies and approaches to solve our
community's most serious health and human service problems. It is a force for change, building
vital partnerships with other non-profits and government programs to improve
the quality of life for all of us.
